November is National Adoption Month!

Approximately 20 percent of children in the US foster care system waiting to be adopted are teens. But in 2019, teens were only five percent of children who were adopted.

The Children’s Bureau is once again raising awareness of the need for families for teens—and the importance of engaging youth in permanency planning efforts—with the 2021 National Adoption Month theme: Every Conversation Matters.

On the National Adoption Month website, you’ll find resources to help you partner with youth—including practice examples—and tools to help you spread the word about adoption from foster care. You’ll also find compelling stories and essays from young people who experienced foster care.

National Adoption Month is an annual initiative of the Children’s Bureau.
